FAQ

Questions about what Confluence can do for you?  Start here or give us a call, we would love to help!

  • I'm already seeing a physical therapist. Can Confluence do anything additional for me?
Yes. If you are looking to supercharge your rehab, we will discuss your current treatment protocol, discuss your goals and look for ways in which we can facilitate your recovery.
  • Why don't you take insurance?
Unfortunately, the trend in private insurance is lower reimbursements, higher premiums and more paperwork. Confluence was created to provide timely access to the most up-to-date treatments for minor orthopedic injuries at a fair price. Confluence accepts Health Savings Account (HSA) cards.
  • What is IASTM?
IASTM is an acronym for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation. This refers to a type of non-invasive manual therapy that uses a smooth instrument for both the diagnosis and treatment of disordered tissues. These instruments can be made of stainless steel, plastic, stone or other materials. During diagnosis, these instruments assist the therapist in detecting changes in tissue. During treatment, they allow for precise application of force and movement onto the area to be addressed.
  • What types of musculoskeletal issues can dry needling be used to treat?
Dry needling is a versatile therapeutic modality with many benefits. One of the most common uses for dry needling is addressing trigger points, or taught bands of tissue within a muscle. Trigger points generally form in a muscle as the result of overuse, either following an intense training cycle or after months or years of repetitive motion, such as using a computer or smartphone. In addition to treating tight muscles, the benefits of dry needling include relieving pain, reducing inflammation and prompting the healing of damaged tissue. Dry needling also improves circulation. As part of a comprehensive plan of care, these benefits make dry needling a great treatment option for any of these issues: Tension Headache Tennis/Golfer's Elbow Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Shoulder Pain Patellar Tendonosis Achilles Tendonosis Plantar Fasciitis And More! If you have questions regarding dry needling or any of the services offered by Confluence AT, don't hesitate to reach out!
  • What is therapeutic ultrasound?
Therapeutic ultrasound is a means by which high frequency sound waves are introduced to superficial and deep structures of the body to affect positive changes within the tissue. It is not used to generate pictures or diagnose conditions. Different therapeutic effects may be achieved depending upon how the ultrasound unit is calibrated. Ultrasound may be used either to introduce heat deep into tissues or reduce chronic inflammation and restart the healing process.
  • What is joint mobilization?
Joint mobilization is a special technique used to help your joints move more freely. It is similar to a chiropractic manipulation but much gentler. Results from joint mobilization are frequently seen after only one treatment!
  • What is dry needling?
Dry needling is the process of inserting thin, filiform (straight) needles into muscle and connective tissue with the purpose of relieving pain, reducing inflammation and re-structuring tissue in a positive manner. While the needles used in dry needling are the same as those used in acupuncture, the treatment philosophy is focused solely on addressing musculoskeletal issues versus balancing the flow of vital energy, or qi, which is a philosophy of Eastern medicine.
  • What is an athletic trainer?
Athletic trainers are allied healthcare professionals who are experts in the prevention and treatment of all musculoskeletal injuries. Unlike physical therapists, athletic trainers are also trained in the management and stabilization of acute injuries. This level of education allows an athletic trainer to care for an injury from the moment it happens, through the rehab process and all the way to return to sport and beyond. It is important to note that athletic trainers are very different from personal trainers. The vast majority of athletic trainers have at least a master's degree and must pass a rigorous national exam to obtain certification. Thereafter, they must complete yearly continuing education to maintain state licensure. For more information, click below to access the National Athletic Trainers Association website.
